MEAGAN BLACK
Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying CRPO # 14083)- B.A., M.C.P
As a therapist, Meagan draws from various methods, including trauma-informed CBT and mindfulness techniques to create a tailored approach for each individual and situation. She has experienced training with Dr. Anna Baranowsky on approaches that draw from mindfulness- based, cognitive behavioural, and somatic interventions to bring forth the process of navigating your story. Her goal is to assist clients in exploring personal challenges and help them develop the strength and skill to optimize life experiences. Meagan believes that guiding presenting issues with compassion, empathy and respect in a safe, non-judgmental environment can foster this optimization.
Meagan has completed her Master of Counselling Psychology (M.C.P) at Adler University whose institutional focus is to gain a wide systemic view on how to affect change for individuals and adapt the ideology of being a socially responsible practitioner.
Meagan has experience in working with various populations, most recently through the lens of systemic change with the Family Justice Innovation Lab based in Vancouver B.C. Meagan's work in 'The Lab' is backed by knowledge and research into adverse childhood experiences and how the effects of divorce on children throughout development may be perpetuated through family court proceedings, with many showing effects long into adulthood. In hearing cases dealing with abuse and neglect there's hope to gain understanding of what is needed to give children more of a choice in their changing family dynamics. Ultimately the hope is to redefine the meaning of what is in the best interest of the child. This experience has guided Meagan’s practice as a counsellor to create that space of choice and agency for her clients as well.
